Let’s face it, everybody these days are looking for ways to save money around the house, and in this case outside of the house too. That is vegetable gardening, this will leave you with buying less groceries every time that you have to make that trip to the grocery store. Now before I cover some of these vegetable gardening tips, you must realize that growing an organic vegetable garden is no easy task, and if this if you first time tending to a garden, then you may want to start off with something more suitable for beginners such as a flower garden that requires low maintenance. But if you are willing to spend some time out of your day, maybe an hour or more, then by all means go for it.

Organic vegetable gardening is an excellent hobby and as stated above, you will have the healthiest most organic vegetables to eat all day long if the garden is tended to properly. First thing that you are going to have to decide are what kind of vegetables you are going to grow, and make a bed for them. If this is your first time you do not want to start off with too many as this can be a bit overwhelming, so keep it short and sweet for the beginner that is looking to start up organic vegetable gardening.

A good majority of the vegetables that you grow in gardens will require anywhere between 6 and 8 hours of sunlight for them to grow properly. You will also have to determine when the seasons are for the type of vegatable that you are going to grow and make sure that you plan accordingly. If you have some rows of plants there is no reason why you cannot take use of the extra space that is inbetween by growing some fast sprouts such lettuce, cabbage and radish.

Another organic vegetable gardening tip is to make sure that you garden is getting sufficient water in the dryer seasons. 1 inch of water a week should be about right for most types of veggie gardens that are out there. One thing that you are going to have to keep a good eye for when maintaining a vegetable garden, especially during the season that your vegetables are going to begin growing are insects and animals.

This is really the tricky part is when all of your vegetables start to grow, and believe it or not fruit gardens are even more a pain in the butt when growing time comes into effect. You should check out my previous post for further information on how to get rid of garden pests, there are some good pointers in there. Especially how you should be treating pesticides for insects, as you do not want to be eating vegetables that are covered in pesticide.

To keep out animals such as dogs, rabbits, and others, you might want to think about putting a fence around the vegetable garden. Not only will this help keep unwanted guests and pests out of your garden, you can use it to support certain types of plants so that they can grow nice and strong. So if you are ready to start your own organic vegetable garden, then you should have a better idea of how to know and what you can expect along the way. Remember start slow, start small, once you get the hang of certain vegetables and their seasons, then that is when you should start adding more vegetables to your garden.

If you are in love with gardening and have your own garden, you will find yourself stepping outside many times a day to check up on it. Sometimes you will notice that some of your plants, or some of your flowers have been tampered with. If you have a fruit garden you may notice some holes in the fruits, or with a vegetable garden the same thing. This is a pretty good indication that you have some garden pests. There are many types of garden pests such as insects, birds, and worms. For this reason I am going to go over some of the ways that I have learned how to get rid of garden pests without destroying my garden at the same time.

One way is to use a pesticide to spray your garden. Now there are many kinds of pesticides that are out there, and there are usually detailed instructions to use these sprays, and you must follow them exactly as if you do not, you will still kill most of the garden pests, but more than likely you will kill all of your plants too. So that is why it is very crucial that you follow the instructions exactly how they are on the bottle.

Make sure that you check your garden for weeds and dead shrubbery, and also dead leaves as well. This just gives the insects more places that they can hide. If you are having a problem with worms you can contain them to a degree by turning the soil in the garden a couple times a week. Keeping the garden clean and free of dead stuff is one of the best ways to take away the hiding places of insects and further help you in your task of getting rid of garden pests.

As far as birds go, they are more than likely in your garden because they are hungry. They may be there to eat your fruit or eat your vegetables, do not put it past them to swoop through your garden and mess up your flowers because they are in there digging for worms either. The easiest way that I have found to get the birds out of your garden is to get a bird feeder. If you want to take it a step further, such as a mini home improvement project, you could get a feeder and a bird house. Now you no longer have birds messing with your garden, you also made your home look better and classier, now that’s what I call killing 2 birds with one stone!
