Remodeling Your Garage Ideas

by Dave The Handyman on April 10, 2011

If you are looking to add more space to your home, and want to spice it up a little bit, why not start remodeling the garage? This would be especially beneficial if you are not using it for your cars any more also. Garages are usually a separate part of the house, so it’s not uncommon that you should have duct work attached to it, to keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We will get into that in a  little bit though.

So where do you begin remodeling your garage? Well if you want it to look good, stop using it as a storage space, that’s what basements and attics are used for. Next you want the flooring to look decent, instead of just the oil soaked pavement that is on the ground. Rubber matting has become an extremely popular choice for garage flooring these days, and it is also quite affordable, in most cases cheaper than carpet is.

If you are a handyman, you can start to turn your garage into a workshop, where you can start to construct projects for the home, and neatly store all of your tools. Most of the time this is a better place to work than say a shed. Another thing that you can do to pimp out your garage would be to get some air conditioning in there. This can be done by installing a window unit air conditioner in the wall. If you want to take it a step farther you can install a mini-split air conditioning system inside of there, which is pretty much the same thing as central air conditioning, except there is no duct work involved, and the units are much smaller, specifically designed to cool just one room.

Hook it up with a nice television on the wall, this is something that would be good especially if you want to turn a section of your garage into a home gym, nice if you have the rubber flooring installed already. Another good idea to transform your garage into a man cave, would be to add a pool table to it, being that you have enough space to do so.

All you have to do is envision what you want out of your garage, and it can easily be a great addition to your home. It can be known as the place of retreat, a place to party, a place to build projects, a place to work out, or just sit back on the couch and drink a couple cold ones while watching some television.

The options are there for you. If you have any ideas on how to make your garage a pimped out man cave, please feel free to share them in the comments!
